Open Sanctions

The Data is Plural Newsletter is a blast. I've learned about so many datasets because of the weekly email and recently I stumbled apon a gem; opensanctions.org.

Search is friendly on the site. Just trying "Dutch politicians" gave me ample examples and the project also offers an API. You might think that this data is mainly meant for journalists, but I can come up with many other valid use-cases.

Are you interested in weak labelling? This source may give you names of politicians or businessmen that appear in news papers. Similarily, you may also be able to get a set of company names to reference against. Are you doing fraud analysis at a financial? This would also be interesting for that!

The site also comes with many interesting articles that explain how they run their service. Topics like deduplication and graph analytics make an appearance on their blog.

Interesting service!
