Dygma Raise
Maybe too shiny, but useful
I got my hands on the first version of the Dygma Raise, which I managed to snag second-hand for $120 - quite a steal! The keyboard made quite an impression with its flashy RGB lighting, including an optional light bar at the bottom. While initially skeptical about all the lighting, I found it actually served some practical purposes, especially for layer indication.
The keyboard's standout feature was its innovative thumb cluster design, with four buttons on each side arranged in two rows, using different switch types for better tactile feedback. The lower row used Choc switches with less travel, making it easy to distinguish by feel. The included Bazecor software offered extensive customization options, from simple key remapping to advanced features like home row mods and macro programming. While I encountered occasional bugs, they were minor and easily fixed by reconnecting the keyboard. The included carrying case and extra switches were nice touches that added value to the package.
Pros
- Clever thumb cluster design
- Comprehensive customization software (Bazecor)
- Includes carrying case and extra switches
- RGB lighting serves functional purposes for layer indication
Cons
- Very flashy aesthetic might not appeal to everyone
- Occasional software bugs
- Mouse control feature needs improvement
