ZSA Moonlander
Amazing Macropad, OK keyboard
I spent some time with the ZSA Moonlander, a split ergonomic keyboard that comes with some interesting features. The keyboard had a lot going for it with its columnar layout, split design, and RGB lighting. What really stood out was ZSA's amazing configuration software - it's probably the best in the business. The keyboard came with a carrying case and adjustable tenting options, though I found some ergonomic issues particularly with the thumb cluster.
While it didn't end up being my daily driver (I preferred the smaller Voyager), I discovered it could be an excellent macro pad. The thumb cluster design was a bit awkward, especially when tenting the keyboard, and I could only comfortably reach two of the four thumb keys. However, the real star was the software ecosystem - the configurator and keymap app made it super easy to customize layouts and track typing patterns. As a macro pad (or in its Half Moon variant), it really shined due to the extra keys and excellent programmability.
Pros
- Outstanding configuration software and customization options
- High-quality build with included carrying case
- Excellent as a programmable macro pad
- Split design with adjustable tenting
Cons
- Awkward thumb cluster design, especially when tented
- Red center button is difficult to press ergonomically
- Not cheap
