NocFree Lite
NocFree lite REVIEW - split, mechanical and pretty affordable
I got my hands on the NocFree Lite, a split mechanical keyboard that aims to be an affordable entry point into ergonomic keyboards. The keyboard came with some interesting features like tenting capabilities through magnetic palm rests and legs, making it more comfortable for daily use. The typing experience was solid, and I particularly appreciated the programmability through the Vial configurator, which was actually better than VIA in most aspects.
The keyboard also offered both wired and wireless connectivity options, and came with the choice of silent switches - perfect for office use. While there were some quirks like the mini-USB connection between halves and an issue with 5-pin switches not fitting in certain positions, the overall package at around $200 (with palm rests and carrying case) made it an interesting option for those looking to try out split keyboards without breaking the bank.
Pros
- Affordable entry point into split keyboards
- Good programmability with Vial configurator
- Includes tenting functionality with magnetic palm rests
- Silent switch options available for office use
Cons
- Some switches require pin modification to fit
- Mini-USB connection between halves instead of USB-C
- Limited tenting angle options
- Row staggered layout is not the best for ergonomics
